Steven E. Mayo

EAST CHAIN — Services for Steven E. Mayo, 79, of East Chain, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022, at the East Chain United Methodist Church in East Chain. Burial will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery near East Chain. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Steven passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Steven Earl Mayo was born Dec. 16, 1942, at the Hunts Hospital in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Gordon and Florence (Miller) Mayo. Steve grew up in East Chain, Minn., and received his education from East Chain Public School where he graduated with the class of 1960.

In 1967, Steve was united in marriage to Lynn Dressler. Together the couple would be blessed with two children, Steven Jr. and Kristin. On May 24, 1998, Steven was united in marriage to Ida Spiegeler in Fairmont, Minn. Together the couple would make their home in East Chain and were blessed with over 24 years of marriage.

Steven worked for many years at United Airlines where he worked his way up to operations manager. Steven also worked for United Express and following his retirement drove school bus in East Chain for many years. Steve served as the secretary and treasurer for the Oakwood Cemetery Association and also served on the board and as secretary for United Methodist Church in East Chain where he was a life member. Steve was a member of the East Chain Sportsman Club and a member of the East Chain Memorial Association. Steve was passionate about golf and looked forward to time at the golf course and working on his game. He enjoyed traveling and cherished memories made over the years on special trips with family and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ida Mayo; children, Kristin (Janek Remillard) Mayo, Steven Mayo Jr. and his wife, Melissa Mayo; grandson, Alex Mayo; sister, Jane (Keith) True, sister-in-law, Valerie (Ken) Winch; brother-in-law, Darwin (Karen) Spiegeler; as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
