Sandra Ellen (Cooper-Keithahn) Skarphol

SHERBURN -- A celebration of life service for Sandra Ellen Skarphol, 81, of Springfield, Minn., formerly of Sherburn, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Sherburn Assembly of God Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Burial will be in the Sherburn Cemetery, Sherburn, Minn.

Sandy was called to her eternal rest Tuesday morning, Feb. 22, 2022, in New Hope, Minn. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the church in Sherburn. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com

Sandra Ellen (Cooper/Keithahn) Skarphol was born Oct. 26, 1940, to Hugh and Nellie (Taplin) Cooper in the family’s home at 106 N. Prairie, Sherburn, Minn. Sandra graduated from Sherburn High School. Sandra was united in marriage to Wayne Lorin Keithahn on June 1, 1958, at Sherburn, Minn. After their marriage they farmed in Galena Township by Trimont, Minn. for three years, later moving back to Sherburn, where they raised six children. They ran a home-based, wood craft business, called Country Hearts. Wayne and Sandra were married 30 years when he passed away in 1988. Sandra was born again on Feb. 23, 1973, when she personally believed in Jesus Christ, accepting Him as her personal Savior according to Acts 16:31, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." In obedience to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ and in imitation of His example, Sandra was buried with Him in baptism shortly after her conversion. Her faith was the most important aspect of who she was and she shared it freely with others. From 1975-1980, Sandra worked for the Sherburn weekly newspaper as a typist and wrote a column called, “Sandy’s Pile.” From 1980-1992, Sandra worked for the Martin County Sheriff's Department as a 911 dispatcher and female jailer. She was also the calligraphy/portrait artist for the departments. Sandra was a APCO operation training committee member and taught dispatch training on telephone techniques and listening skills. On Aug. 4, 1990, Sandra was united in marriage to Lloyd Skarphol at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed by Springfield, Minn. Lloyd and Sandra were married 31 years. Sandra is survived by her husband, Lloyd Skarphol of Springfield, Minn.; children, David Keithahn, Janelle (Jerry) West, Kayleen (Layne) Posivio, John Keithahn (Michelle), Michael (Rebecca) Keithahn; daughter-in-law, Victoria Keithahn; stepchildren, Jeffrey (Val) Skarphol, Charlotte (Mark) Hoffmann, Connie (Brian) Cordell; two special daughters, Darla Groff and De Arellano; 31 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nine brothers and nine sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Nellie (Taplin) Cooper; sister, Connie Spoerry; husband, Wayne Keithahn; son, Daniel Keithahn; grandson, Zachary Skarphol; two infant brothers; one infant sister; two brothers-in-law, Jim Skarphol, and Vernon McGuire; grandparents, William and Grace Cooper and George and Martha Taplin.
