SHERBURN -- Mary Ann Hassing passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, with her daughter and granddaughters, Taylor and Addison, by her side, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 7 days.
Mary Ann was born Thursday, Jan. 24, 1946, in Blue Earth, Minn., daughter of Victor and Margaret (Dunne) Murphy. She attended and graduated from Blue Earth Schools in 1964. Upon graduation, Mary attended beauty school in the Twin Cities. Mary met the love of her life, Robert Hassing, at a dance at the Fox Lake Ballroom. They were united in marriage on March 11, 1966, at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, Minn. After marriage the couple made their home together in Alpha. Mary worked as a bartender at the VFW in Sherburn for many years, along with doing hair for individuals, with her main focus taking care of the home. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson. Mary was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Mary stayed living in Alpha, upon Robert's passing in 2016, until January 2022, when she moved into the Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn. Mary was an outgoing lady. She enjoyed taking her daily drives around Alpha, checking in on her neighbors. She was an outstanding decorator for the holidays, never missing a single one. During the summer months, Mary could be found out tinkering in her flower beds. She enjoyed baking, sharing with her friends, family, and neighbors. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters Taylor and Addison. Mary's kind heart, and warm smile will always be remembered by her family and great friends. Left to cherish the memories of Mary are her daughter, Ann (Duane) Leifson of Baldwin, N.D., granddaughters, Taylor Johnson and Addison Leifson; sister, Margaret Murphy; brother-in-law, Bill (Barb) Hassing; sister-in-law, Judy (David) Senne; special family friend, Krystal Preuss; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Victor and Margaret; brother, Thomas L. Murphy; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Joan Witt. Blessed be the memory of Mary Ann Hassing. www.ofh.care
