Charles ‘Chuck’ Christian

BLUE EARTH — Charles “Chuck” Christian, age 89 of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 30, 2022, in his home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today, July 7, at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth with Rev. Dan Foster officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Chuck was born May 15, 1933, in the home in rural Frost, Minn., the son of Orville and Regina (Thompson) Christian. He attended Blue Earth Public School and was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 5, 1953, and received his honorable discharge on May 18, 1955. On May 17, 1958, Chuck married Sylvia Sperlich in Blue Earth, and they had two children, Julie and Mark. He worked for Norbert Mensing Construction Company for many years. Later he joined the union doing carpenter work in the area until he retired. He was a very artistic and talented wood worker, enjoying building, wood lathe and carving. In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing. His greatest passion in life were his dedication and love of his Lord. He treasured his family and his country. He was a member of the Honor Guard and was proud that he could participate in the memorial services from a very young age and continued until his health failed. Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post 89 and the past VFW 4580. He was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Blue Earth. Chuck will be sorely missed by his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Julie (Tim) Lewis of Owatonna; son, Mark (Josanne) Christian of Burnsville; his grandchildren, Timothy J. (Jenny) Lewis of Blue Earth, BrieAnna (Dan) Melcher of Waseca, and Kathryn and Alexander Christian of Burnsville; great-granddaughters, Amelia and Julianna Lewis of Blue Earth; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Arnold Flentje of Brooklyn Center; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Regina Christian; brothers, Joel and his wife Delores Christian, and Orlean Christian; sisters, Mavis and her husband James Ogilvie and Opal and her husband Darrel Hagedorn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil G. “Mike” and Juliann Sperlich. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice and Interfaith Caregivers for the wonderful care they gave him. He always thought of you all as “Charlie’s Angels.”
