Marilyn Ann Moody

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Marilyn Ann (Teiken) Moody, age 89, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Online condolences can be sent to the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home website, www.walnutlawnfuneralhome.com.

Marilyn was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Madelia, Minn., to John and Esther (Teske) Teiken, the oldest of three children. She was raised in the Truman, Minn. area and graduated in 1950. She earned her nursing degree in Portsmouth, Va., where she met her husband, Fred Moody, who was in the U.S. Navy. They were married for 69 years and had three daughters. Her husband served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force until 1969 when they moved to Springfield, where Marilyn worked as a nurse at Cox Medical Center. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees while raising their daughters and working full-time. She was also a pastor’s wife for many years. Later in life, she earned her PhD in Christian Counseling. She served as organist in several churches and in her Sunday School class until 2018. She was a dedicated wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved spending as much time with her family as possible. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Moody; daughter, Sandy; parents, John and Esther Teiken; sister, Carmen Merriman; and brother, John Teiken. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne (David) Greenberger, and Vicki (Bruce) Whitfield; granddaughters, Tiffany (Brian) Brown and Amanda (Brent) Longenecker; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Brown, Eli Herren, Rhian and Iris Longenecker. A funeral service for her was held June 25, 2022, with Reverend Eddie Lyons officiating. Burial followed at the Steele Memorial Cemetery, in Hartville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to High Street Church Missions Fund or to a charity of your choice.
