Leo A. Mau

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Leo A. Mau, age 102, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Leo passed away Friday evening, June 17, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leo Albert Mau was born Aug. 14, 1919, near Ormsby, Minn., the son of Ernest and Clara (Kuehl) Mau. Leo was baptized and was later confirmed at Immanuel Church in Galena Township, Minn. He attended eight grades in one-room schoolhouses and later graduated from Trimont High School in 1937. Leo furthered his education at Worthington Junior College. On June 10, 1941, Leo was drafted into the U.S. Army. After attending Ft. Benning Infantry School, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant and later promoted to 1st lieutenant. During World War II, he commanded a rifle company through the fighting in France, Germany, and Austria. Leo was awarded the Presidential Unit Commendation, Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star before earning his honorable discharge on Nov. 30, 1945. In 1942, Leo was united in marriage to Hazel M. Krusemark. This union was blessed with 4 children, Sharon, Barbara, Judith, and Michael. Leo and Hazel shared 30 years together before Hazel passed away in 1972. In 1973, Leo was united in marriage to Pauline R. Miller. The couple shared 49 years together and resided in Fairmont where Leo worked for thirty years for W. Hodgeman & Sons, Inc. as the secretary treasurer until his retirement in 1986.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pauline Mau; children, Sharon (Linus) Tumbleson, Barbara (Kirk) Gentling, and Michael (Jolene) Mau; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Mau; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Ernest and Clara Mau, Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Mau; daughter, Judith in infancy; his brothers and sisters. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
