CEYLON -- A funeral service for Wayne G. Harder, age 74, of Ceylon, Minn., will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont, with interment in Tenhassen Township Cemetery, rural Ceylon, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 13, at the United Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Wayne passed away Monday afternoon, June 6, 2022, at the Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, Texas. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wayne Gene Harder was born March 10, 1948, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Walter and Evelyn (Rosburg) Harder. Wayne attended Ceylon Public Schools and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1966. On April 20, 1968, Wayne was united in marriage to Karen Looft at the Ceylon United Methodist Church. The couple resided in Ceylon and were blessed with five children: Mark, Michael, Melanie, Matthew, and Melissa. Wayne and Karen shared over fifty-four years together. Wayne worked for over 33 years at Fairmont Railway Motors and Harsco in the foundry and later in maintenance. He then worked as a custodian at Martin County West school as well as Forest Ridge until his retirement in 2015. When he wasn't at work, he enjoyed farming 120 acres as he had done since his youth. Wayne found great joy in helping others in any way that he was able. This was apparent through his service on the Ceylon Fire Department, Ceylon Ambulance, and Ceylon School Board. Wayne also drove school bus, was a Cub Scout Leader, and coached some of his kid's sports teams when they were younger. Wayne had attended school for baking and gave of his talents by baking and decorating hundreds of wedding, birthday, and other special cakes for many family and friends through the years. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen Harder of Ceylon, Minn.; daughter, Melanie (Chad) Dunlop of Ceylon, Minn.; sons, Mark (Jackie) Harder of Dunnell, Minn., Michael (Kathy) Harder of Fairmont, Minn., and Matthew (Melanie) Harder of Midlothian, Texas; grandchildren, Ethan Harder, Tanner Muller, Keith-Justin Harder, Brandon Harder, Landon (Miranda) Harder, Caitlyn Harder, Alec (Morgan) Harder, Ashley (John Vrooman) Harder, Derek Dunlop, Emily Dunlop, Alyssa Harder, Dillon Ertz, and Dakota Ertz; six great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way; sisters, Alice Evans of Norwood, Minn., and Judy (Dave) Wachal of Mankato, Minn.; sister-in-law, Sandra (Melvin) Leiding of Hinkley, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
