SHERBURN — A time of remembering and celebrating the life of Janice “Jan” M. Nelson, 69, of rural Sherburn, Minn., will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, Minn.
Jan died Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 2022, in Sherburn, Minn. There will be a public prayer service at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, conducted by Father Jonathan Fasnacht from St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Janice Marie Merron was born Nov. 11, 1952, to George and Agnes (Droessler) Merron in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1970. Jan continued her education and graduated from Hamilton Business School in Mason City, Iowa, with a degree in secretarial and administrative science. After college, she started her career by working at Railway Motors in Fairmont. Following her employment with Railway Motors, she worked as a secretary for a local dental office. On Nov. 6, 1976, she was united in marriage to Robert K. Nelson at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft, Iowa. Shortly after they purchased a farm outside of Sherburn in Fox Lake Township where they lived, farmed, and started a family. Jan spent her time helping on the farm, raising her children, and working as a cook at Martin County West High School. Jan was later employed as a bank teller for First Farmers and Merchants Bank in Fairmont until her retirement in 2018, serving over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Jan volunteered for many activities through the church and had a strong passion for faith throughout her life. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, baking, swimming and her horses. She is survived by her four sons, Tony Nelson of Trimont, Minn., Dan Nelson of Watertown, S.D., Richard (Rana) Nelson and their three sons, Bennett, Winston and Archer, all of Lake Crystal, Minn., and Josh Nelson of rural Sherburn, Minn.; bothers and sisters, Pat (Max) Merron of Bancroft, Iowa, Eileen (Roger) Vaske of Bancroft, Iowa, Dorothy (Tom) Lampe of Altoona, Iowa, Peggy (Steve) DeMarce of Blue Earth, Minn., Dick (Pam) Merron of Waterloo, Iowa, Jim (Cindy) Merron of Brandon, S.D., Bill (Sonja) Merron of Bancroft, Iowa, and Mary (Bill) Zinnel of Boone, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
