Robert J. Malo
SHERBURN– A celebration of life service for Robert J. Malo, 94, of Fairmont, formerly of rural Sherburn, Minn., will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at St. JohnÕs Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Military honors by the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261 and the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 of Sherburn, will be held right outside of the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, Minn.
Robert was called to his eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2022, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. tonight, June 3, 2022, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Robert John Malo was born June 11, 1927, to Elmer J. and Lucille (Grems) Malo in Fairmont, Minn. He attended and later was a 1945 graduate of Fairmont High School. On March 20, 1946, he entered the U.S. Army serving until his honorable discharge on Sept. 26, 1947. On July 18, 1948, Robert was united in marriage to Laurel Marie Musser in Sherburn, Minn. After their marriage they farmed in Manyaska Township. Laurel and Robert had been coming to the valley in Arizona to spend the winter months for twenty-nine years. They enjoyed the backroads of Arizona. They would take their Jeep and explore. Laurel died on Nov. 6, 2006. Robert met Sara Gould and later was united in marriage to her on Nov. 15, 2008, in Sherburn. They made their home in rural Sherburn and later in Fairmont. Sara died on Aug. 17, 2018. Robert made his home on the farm in Manyaska Township until becoming a resident of Goldfinch Estates. He was a member of St. JohnÕs Lutheran Church in Sherburn and was active in 4-H in Manyaska Township. He also served on the Sherburn School Board for many years. Robert greatly enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his two children: son, Douglas (Mary) Malo of Brookings, S.D.; daughter, Georgiann (John) Pfaffinger of Fairmont, Minn.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lucille Malo; wives, Laurel M. Malo, and Sara Malo; brothers, Roland and Kenneth Malo; father and mother-in-law, George and Lucinda Musser; sisters-in law and brother-in-laws, Pat and Norman Carlson, Kent Musser, Thomas Musser, Vernon Thiesse; and other relatives.
