Gordon Lee Preuss

SHERBURN — A celebration of life service for Gordon Lee Preuss, 74, of rural Sherburn, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Military honors by Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261 and Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 of Sherburn, will be held outside of the church.

Gordy died Wednesday afternoon, May 18, 2022, in rural Sherburn, Minn. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Gordon Lee Preuss was born Dec. 12, 1947, to Walter and Elsie (Beerman) Preuss in Windom, Minn. His family lived near Fish Lake and later moved to a farm on Hwy 60 near Heron Lake until his parents retired and moved into Windom. Gordy was baptized on Jan. 4, 1948, and later confirmed on May 21, 1961, both at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Windom. He graduated from Windom High School with the class of 1965. He attended Jackson Vocational College to become a Lineman. On July 21, 1966, Gordy was accepted for enlistment into the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. On Jan. 10, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sandra “Skalsky” Clymer and had two sons, Chadd and Travis. Gordy was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces as Corporal (E-4) on July 20, 1972, after serving his country. Gordy returned to Windom and worked for the City of Windom, Penner Heating in Mountain Lake, and Frank’s Repair in Windom. In 1973, he moved to Loon Lake and was a farmhand for Harold Stammer for five years. In 1978, he worked at John Morrells in Estherville. In 1981, he moved to Jackson and began working at Glasstite in Dunnell. After separating from Sandy in 1985, he was united in marriage to Marla Higgins, and later to Velda Swenson. After separating from Velda, Gordy married the love of his life, Dixie Lynn Sathoff on Oct. 23, 2004, at the Heart of Reno Chapel in Reno, Nev. In 2001, Gordy worked at Global Manufacturing in Estherville. In 2004, he started C&G Manufacturing with his partner Charles “Chuck” Umscheid. Gordy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. He was a proud supporter of Duck’s Unlimited, NRA, and Pheasants Forever. Gordy was a avid hunter and fisherman and was especially passionate about deer hunting. He enjoyed watching sprint car races and established Preuss Quarter Horses in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lynn Preuss of rural Sherburn, Minn.; three children, Chadd Lee Preuss and his wife, Krystal of Alpha, Minn., Travis Lynn Preuss and his wife, Linsey of Blue Earth, Minn., and Michael Leroy Sathoff of Estherville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Logan Lee Preuss and special friend, Randi Tiesler, Morgan Mae Preuss, Dylan John Preuss, Ayla Marilyn Warmka and Carter Edward Preuss; sisters, Sharon and Willis Hinkeldey of Windom, Minn., and Marlys and Dan Milbrath of Okabena, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Susan “Sue” Braun Preuss of Lakefield, Minn., Peg Flaharty of South Branch, Minn., Bob Sathoff of Estherville, Iowa, Robyn (Deb) Sathoff of Welcome, Minn., Deb (Farmer) Brandt of Sherburn, Minn., DeDee (Tylan Remmers) Sathoff of Sherburn, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his two dogs, Chester and Sheza.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Preuss; brother, DaWayne Henry Preuss; grandparents, Henry and Anna Beerman and Henry and Anna Preuss; father and mother-in-law, Harvey and JoAnne Sathoff; and other relatives.
