FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Marie E. Madsen, 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Marie passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Woodland Manor in Fairmont, Minn. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont or the donor’s choice. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marie Elizabeth (Scheff) Madsen was born Dec. 16, 1931, to Eugene and Clara (Pluta) Scheff, in Manyaska Township, Martin County, Minn. She lived on a farm south of Welcome and started school in District 36 from the first grade and just started sixth grade when they moved into Welcome, Minn., where she completed her education. She graduated from Welcome High School in 1949. She worked at the Fairmont Community Hospital and then went to work at the G and W Café until her marriage to Laurence Madsen on Sept. 19, 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. They made their home in Fairmont. Marie raised their two children, Daniel and Susan. She worked at the Jolly Inn in Fairmont and left there to work for the V.F.W., retiring from there in 1995. Marie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She was a life member of Martin County V.F.W. Auxiliary 1222 where she served as president from 1979-1980 and then went on to serve as president of the Second District V.F.W. Auxiliary from 1984-1985. She was also a member of Welcome Legion Auxiliary 553, life member of the Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary and charter member of the Fairmont Eagles Auxiliary. Marie had a love for crocheting and spent many hours making many things, especially baby blankets. She also loved jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Daniel (Cherie) Madsen and Susan (Keith) Christianson; granddaughter, Tanya (Shane) Robertson; great-grandchildren, Margo and Cecily Robertson; brother, John (Betty) Scheff; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Clara Scheff; husband, Laurence Madsen; grandson, Jonathan Christianson; brothers, Ray, Art, George, Albert, and Eugene Scheff; sister, Hattie Lesch; and parents-in-law, Christian and Elsie Madsen. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
