Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Coleman

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. — Dorothy “Dottie” Coleman, age 86, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, entered eternal rest Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital, with family at her side. A service for her will be held noon Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Eagle River, Wis., with visitation from 11 a.m. to noon.

Dorothy was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Fairmont, Minn., to Alfred and Lucille Newville. She married her husband, Franklin Coleman, in 1964 and moved to Chicago, Ill., where she spent the next 16 years making a home, raising her family, and caring for her mother-in-law. As a family, they enjoyed spending summers at their cabin on the Eagle River Chain. In 1980, they made Eagle River their full-time residence. Dorothy worked retail at several Eagle River shops over the years including Ben Franklin, Schultz’s, and McKeever’s Hardware, where she loved her job in the greenhouse. Dorothy enjoyed fishing on the Eagle River chain and tending to her garden and watching the hummingbirds in the summer. She was an avid reader and crafter. She faithfully watched the Green Bay Packers every weekend. Throughout the years, Dorothy’s faith in God remained strong, and she attended mass at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish in Eagle River as much as she was able. Though she had a variety of interests and hobbies over the years, nothing brought her more joy than her family. Dorothy enjoyed every moment with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved and appreciated every visit with her four great-grandchildren, her pride and joy.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Pat) Zdroik of Eagle River; son, Patrick Coleman of Eagle River; granddaughters, Trista (Ryan) Owczarzak of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Stephanie (Brandon) Van Natta of Eagle River; great-grandchildren, Teagan and Riley Owczarzak of Beaver Dam, and Graham and Olive Ann Van Natta of Eagle River; sisters, Margaret (Jim) Thompson of Fairfield, Ill., Helen (Paul) Thomas of Coon Rapids, Minn., Joann Frost of Blaine, Minn.; brother, Jim (Cathy) Newville of Butte, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents, Alfred and Lucille; and her brother, Edward Newville. www.gaffney-busha.com
