Eugene E. Simmering

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Eugene E. Simmering, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. Burial will follow the service in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military honors by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Eugene passed away Sunday afternoon, May 8, 2022, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Eugene E. Simmering was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Edward and Alma (Miedtke) Simmering. He attended school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School in Wilbert, Minn. and graduated from Fairmont High School. On April 16, 1954, Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. On Jan. 15, 1955, Eugene was united in marriage to Marlene Brockman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. While Eugene was still in the military, the couple made their home at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ga., and Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, N.M. Upon receiving his honorable discharge on April 13, 1956, the couple returned to Minnesota and made their home on a farm near Fairmont and were blessed with three children, Bryan, Rochelle and Brad. Eugene loved life on the farm and worked as a farmer for many years. He was also employed at Fairmont Railway Motors and successor Harsco for 28 years until his retirement from full-time employment in June 1997. He later worked for the Minnesota Motor Bus Company where he drove school bus for 14 years. Eugene was passionate about his faith and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. He served many different roles on the church council, was a member of the Men’s Club, and served in various offices on the St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School Board. Eugene was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion in Fairmont. In his youth, Eugene found a love for flying and became a private pilot. He treasured beautiful nights taking his family flying and enjoying the beauty of God’s work. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marlene Simmering of Fairmont; three children, Bryan Simmering and special friend, Judi; Bryan’s children, Travis (April) Simmering and their children, Micha and Isaac, and Jessica (Jerrick) Urban and their children, Addy and Grayson; Rochelle (Jim) Franzen, and their daughter, Sasha Franzen; and Brad (Audra) Simmering and their children, Maya Simmering, Leyton Simmering and Bennett Simmering; sister, Ardella Nagel; and brother-in-law, Arlund (Shirley) Brockman; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
