Karen Mae Rosenberg
FAIRMONT — Karen Mae Rosenberg (Grandma) was born May 3, 1941, in Frost, Minn. I passed away at Goldfinch Assisted Living Center in Fairmont, Minn. on April 9, 2022, at the age of 80. As per my wish, I do not want a visitation and I will become ashes and will be buried at a later date around or on Cassem/Warden family picnic and I hope to set a record potluck picnic crowd. My parents were Edwin and Laura (Warden) Cassem. I had four brothers, Roger (Sharon), Duane (Carol), Dennis (Judy), and Mike (Luann) and three sisters, Hazel Cassem, Mary (Donnie) Taylor and Shelley (Roger) Jones. We grew up moving a lot due to our Dad as he worked as a hired hand on farms in Iowa and Minnesota until he started on the railroad in Estherville, Iowa, and later moved to Illinois to finish out his career on the railroad. At that time, Mom and Dad moved back to Estherville upon his retirement. I graduated from Truman, Minn. on my 17th birthday in 1958 and married Ronald Rosenberg the same year at my parents’ home in Truman on July 12, 1958. We were blessed with two children, Jack (Mandie) Rosenberg and Sandy (Reed) Gethmann. We started our marriage near Dolliver. Ron worked for Art and Randal Luscombe for a little over a year and then started farming in Dunnell, Ceylon, and Welcome and milked dairy cows, raised livestock and grain farmed for better part of 26 years until we divorced. I moved to Fairmont and lived in my home on Third Street until I moved to Goldfinch in 2017. Over the years I worked many jobs including, Rudy’s Truck Stop in Dunnell, Minn., Watco’s in Estherville, Iowa, Ronies in Fairmont, Minn., and Teledyne Aerospace for 23 years being the longest and took great joy working for REM and Goldfinch and several other jobs over the years until retiring. My greatest joy and accomplishment was raising my two kids and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I loved all my brothers and sisters, but always had a special bond with my older brother, Roger since birth I believe. We went to kindergarten together when I was only 4 years old. The story was that Roger would not go without me. However, the true story perhaps is I did not want him to go without me. Anyone who knew me knows how much my family and friends meant to me. I took time to talk to most anyone that wanted to visit. I was fortunate at the end of my life that Ron would come visit me and we made peace with one another before my death. Goldfinch over the years was very good to me and many of the workers became part of my family and I love them. I was glad they allowed me to live there until I passed. I have two grandchildren, Dusty (Jammie) Klug and Summer (Steve) Bartlett, step-grandchild, Nelson Remington, five great-grandchildren, Tanner Klug, Kyle Klug, Eli Klug, London Bartlett and Ryan Bartlett, and step great-granddaughter, Essence Leach. I also have many nieces and nephews and my memory does not serve me well at this time to name them all. I was preceded in death by my parents, and brothers, Duane, Dennis and his wife, Judy. Cards can reach the family at Jack Rosenberg, 1272 10th Street, Ceylon, MN 56121, and Sandy Gethmann, 625 Summit Drive, Fairmont, MN 56031. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
