Irene was born in 1934, to Harold and Ann Sorlie, in Koochiching County, Minn. The family lived in Norden, Minn. until 1936 when they moved to Hines, Minn. Irene attended Hines Country School and Blackduck High School. She subsequently attended Bemidji State University. Irene lived in Minneapolis, Minn., and San Francisco, Calif., where she worked for the American Hardware Insurance Company. In 1958, Irene married Robert Shoen of Truman. Robert and Irene purchased a farm in rural Truman where they farmed and raised purebred Jersey dairy cattle. Irene was active in 4-H and the Truman Church of Christ. She volunteered at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman. Irene was an avid gardener and birdwatcher, a talented seamstress, and a wonderful baker. Her homemade pancakes and rolls were always family favorites. Irene is survived by her children: daughter, Nancy Shoen (Lief Johnson) of Roseville; son, Phillip Shoen (Connie Royle) of Minneapolis; son, Warren (Beth) Shoen of Plymouth; daughter, Robin Shoen of St. Louis Park; and grandchildren, Cory Shoen, Jill Shoen and Jack Shoen, all of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by Robert; her parents; and sisters, Doris Seehuus and Fae Grundmeier. In remembrance of Irene, the family asks that any memorials be made to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition.
