Bettie C. Striemer

FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Bettie C. Striemer, age 96, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont, with inurnment in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Bettie passed away Tuesday morning, March 22, 2022, at Friendship Manor in Shakopee, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bettie Charleen (Chesnut) Striemer was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Collison, Pilot Township, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Golda (Vliet) Chesnut. Bettie graduated from Urbana High School in Urbana, Ill. In 1948, Bettie was united in marriage to Harold Striemer in Fairmont, Minn., and shared 30 years together. The couple resided in Fairmont where Bettie worked as a seamstress at Peerless Laundry for many years as well as working sales at Wallace’s until it closed in 1996. After retiring, Bettie continued to take in mending and sewing in her home. Bettie was blessed with four children, Bonnie, Cathie, Doug, and Ruth. Bettie was a past member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reform Church and later became a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont. When she was younger, Bettie danced with the Rockerettes in Fairmont. During her free time, she enjoyed attending Bible study, playing Bridge and golf as well as knitting, sewing, and was an avid reader. She loved traveling including to Alaska and Scandinavian countries. Left to cherish her memory include her children, Cathie Bergstrand of Eden Prairie, Minn., Doug (Deanna) Striemer of Fairmont, Minn., and Ruth Lewis Clover of Loretto, Minn.; grandchildren, Hollie Beckord, Andy Lewis, Katie Lee, Cameron Abbey, Leigha Clark, Melanie Johnson, Andrew Bergstrand, Megan Striemer, Adam Striemer, Robin Pieper, and Tracy Holtz; 15 great-grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Charles and Golda Chesnut, Bettie was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Webb; and sister, Bonnie Bruce and her husband, Bob.
