Dennis Allen Smith was born Oct. 15, 1941, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Eddie and Ivadelle (Miller) Smith. Dennis received his education attending school in the Southern MN and Iowa area.
Following high school, Dennis would go on to enlist with the U.S. Navy. Dennis worked for many years at Tyco Plastics in Fairmont where he was the maintenance manager until his retirement in 2005. On Sept. 3, 2005, Dennis was united in marriage to Sally Miller up by their cabin in Walker, Minn. Together, the couple would make their home in Fairmont and celebrated 16 years of marriage together. Dennis loved the outdoors and spent nearly every day in the boat fishing for his next big walleye. While fishing, Dennis would often check in with family members and friends to see how many fish they were catching and how large they were. He also treasured the memories made hunting pheasants with his family and friends. In the winter months, Dennis kept busy, ice fishing and building fish houses. He enjoyed searching for treasures at rummage sales and was known for his homemade noodle soup which often left a cloud of flour near the kitchen while making his famous egg noodles. Dennis loved his sweets and never passed up a bowl of ice cream or a large glass of black cherry kool-aid. He kept up with the world news, never missing the evening news reports, not just on one channel but all of them. Dennis enjoyed watching westerns and could often be found with a bowl of popcorn and his favorite show on the TV. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sally Smith; children, Todd Smith, Kim Greischar, Donna Smith, Chad Smith and significant other, Wendy, and Malachi Smith; grandchildren, Lori (Zach), Rochelle (Louis), Lexi, Angel, Alex, and Jonah; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Harper, Freja, Solvej; in-laws, Carolina, Susan (Derald), Scott (Lisa), Shawn, and Stacey (Terry); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Ivadelle Smith; infant son, Troy Smith; son-in-law, Paul Greischar; siblings, Milton and Pauline; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
