Scott Alan Bents

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Scott Alan Bents, age 66, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at Denver Hospice, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. A celebration of life will be held April 9, 2022, in Evergreen, Colo.

Scott was born July 30, 1955, in Fairmont, Minn., to Lyle and Elaine (Meyer) Bents. He was a 1973 graduate of Fairmont High School. After high school, Scott joined the National Guard and attended Mankato State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in construction management. He graduated college in 1980, later that year he married Diane Thate and with that union gained a son, Matthew. The day after their wedding the three of them moved to Colorado where Scott started his career as a Project Estimating Manager for a large construction company and continued with the National Guard. Together they had two children, Kelsey and Jonathan. Scott was an amazing father, known for his gentle demeanor. There was not a time that he was not following the kids with his large camcorder on his shoulder recording all holidays and events. During his time in the National Guard, Scott moved up the ranks and was a Jump Master Lieutenant Colonel in the Special Forces. He traveled to many places including Thailand, Japan and Hawaii and was the commanding officer for the Colorado National Guard. Scott retired from the National Guard after 21 years of service. Scott and Diane later divorced, and Scott moved to the Minneapolis area. During this time in Minneapolis, he enjoyed fishing, boating and riding four-wheelers. He went on trips to Alaska and enjoyed salmon fishing. While in Minnesota, Scott met Pam. They decided to move back to Colorado and have lived in Highlands Ranch, Colo. since 2009. Pam and Scott were united in marriage on June 6, 2020, and even went to Las Vegas to renew their vows with Elvis in a pink cadillac. Scott took great pride in the feeling that came from working hard. He was very successful in all aspects of his career, but also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pam; children, Matt Bau of Fairmont, Minn., Kelsey (Lance) White of Estherville, Iowa, and Jonathan (Liz) Bents of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Tate White, Gracie White and Ryker Bau; one sister, Janice Claude, and her husband, Steven; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Elaine Bents; and brother, Leland Bents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Denver Hospice.
