Rod passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 10, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roderick Louis Hager was born March 1, 1930, in Heron Lake, Minn., the son of Louis and Esther (Haberman) Hager. Rod attended Heron Lake public schools and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1948. After high school, Rod enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force through December of 1951. He then furthered his education at Mankato State. On June 11, 1955, Rod was united in marriage to Helen Leopold at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. This union was blessed with three children, John, Tom, and Patsy. Together, the couple would make their home in Fairmont, Minn., where they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Helen passed away on Oct. 9, 2021. Rod began working for his dad at Hager Hardware Store in Heron Lake when he was thirteen. More recently, he worked at 3M in Fairmont for 35 years before retiring on his fifty-ninth birthday. During his free time, Rod enjoyed fishing and golfing. Rod and Helen enjoyed several winters in Arizona during their retirement. Left to cherish his memory include his son, John Hager of Fairmont, Minn.; daughter, Patsy (John) Rieple of Galesville, Wis.; grandchildren, Daniel Hager of Jacksonville, Fla., Jacob Rieple of Holmen, Wis., and Jessica (Brandon) Stratman of LaCrosse, Wis.; as well as many other extended family and friends. Along with his parents, Louis and Esther Hager, Rod was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hager; son, Tom Hager; and siblings, Ronald Hager, Evelyn Mortenson, Norbert Haberman and Marian Kiefer.
