Goldie Lue Weigelt was born Oct. 18, 1954, in Wadena, Minn., the daughter of Theodore L. and Olinda (Baumbach) Weigelt. In childhood, her brothers gave her the endearing nickname, “Punk.” She attended elementary school in Rockford, Minn., and Holdingford, Minn., before moving to Armstrong, Iowa where she attended Armstrong High School and graduated with the class of 1972. Goldie would go on to further her education attending Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Goldie was hardworking and took great pride in a hard day’s work. She moved to Fairmont following college and began working for Harsco where she continued working for 30+ years. Goldie then began her career at Mayo Clinic Health Care in Fairmont where she worked in housekeeping for the last 15 years. Throughout her years of employment, Goldie met and made many friends and loved to joke and give people a hard time. Goldie created many special bonds with her co-workers and in her youth, Goldie enjoyed playing softball with her many friends. She had a passion for cars and loved to keep her cars spotless and was especially fond of her 1997 Chevy Blazer. Goldie looked forward to the Minnesota Street Rod show and walking the rows of vehicles with her brothers, niece, and nephews. She had an expansive knowledge of clocks and found joy in collecting many unique clocks throughout the years. Goldie also had a sweet tooth and made sure to have Almond M&M’s and a variety of almond options for those that visited. Her quiet time was spent watching her daily soaps of the “Young and the Restless” and “Days of our Lives” and made sure not to miss an episode so she taped them to watch later. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her a friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Leslie (Mary Skudlarek) Weigelt of Plymouth, Minn., and Wayne (Lisa Seifert) Weigelt of Brandon, S.D.; nephews and niece, Lucas (Jennifer) Weigelt, Ashley Weigelt, and Chad (Helen) Weigelt; grand-nieces and nephews, Cullen, Theodore, Ben, Clare, Peyton and Anne; as well as other extended family and many friends. Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Olinda Weigelt. The family requests memorials be left in Goldie’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
