Carl Harold Edman

WEST DES MOINES — Carl Harold Edman, 89, of West Des Moines, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 202, at home. A private family memorial will be held at a later date at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, where Carl was a member for over 58 years.

Carl was born April 23, 1932, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Harold and Helen (Hogan) Edman. Carl grew up in Fairmont and met his future wife, Gloria (Keller) Edman, in his kindergarten class. He graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1950. He later went on to obtain a business degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Carl and Gloria recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. They treasure their four children, Paul (Mary), Rob (Sarah), Jan and Eric (Chris). Carl was an owner of Iowa Road Builders Company, a highway construction company based in Des Moines. He counted the people he worked with among his closest friends, and the experiences that he had as a road builder were extremely important to him. He was always eager to point out the many streets and parking lots he paved. Carl loved his family and friends first. His second passion was anything with an engine; cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, helicopters. Carl truly found joy in his relationships and was primarily a people person. He touched many lives with his genuine interest in others. He had a wonderful impact on his family and his many, friends. During his retirement years Carl and Gloria traveled extensively, and met new friends along the way.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Gloria; his four children; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren, Michael (Christy), Theresa (John), Benjamin, Elysia (Bryan), Jack (Rachel), Allison, Spencer and Alex; and an exciting 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials to Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.
