William Bruce Meier
AMBOY — A memorial service for William Bruce Meier, 91, of Amboy, Minn., will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with full military honors at the conclusion of the service by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, in Nashville Township Cemetery near Amboy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
William passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in St. James, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
William Bruce Meier was born May 10, 1930, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of William X. and Vivian (Rector) Meier. Bruce grew up in Truman and received his education attending school in Truman and graduating from Truman High School. On Jan. 16, 1951, Bruce enlisted in the Army National Guard and earned the rank of Corporal. He received his basic training at Camp Rucker, Alabama and received his honorable discharge on Jan. 7, 1954. On June 24, 1954, Bruce and Alice Ruth Klaus were united in marriage in Truman, Minn. Together the couple would make their home on a farm near Amboy and were blessed with a son, Lonnie. Bruce worked for many years as a painter and continued working until his retirement in 2012. Bruce was an accomplished musician and played the rhythm guitar and sang with his wife, Alice. Their son, Lonnie would later join his parents and their band, and the trio toured all Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa sharing their gift of music with many people throughout the years. Bruce was an avid bird enthusiast and loved spending time with his dogs and cats. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Lonnie Meier and his wife, Connie of Truman; and his cat, Zippy. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Vivian Meier; wife, Alice Meier; and a brother-in-law, Emil Klaus and his wife, Betty. The family requests memorials be left in Bruce’s name to the Blue Earth & Nicollet County Humane Society’s (BENCHES).
