Fred A. Zoeller

FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Fred A. Zoeller, age 77, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont, with interment in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont. Military honors will be provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Fred passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 22, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Fredrick Arthur Zoeller was born Feb. 17, 1944, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Arthur and Eunice (Unke) Zoeller. Fred attended Fairmont Public Schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1962.

On June 8, 1965, Fred was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam with the 61st Infantry, 5th Army as an infantryman. Fred was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Defense Campaign Medal, Vietnam Counter Offensive Campaign Medal, and Air Medal. He achieved the rank of PFC before earning his honorable discharge on June 7, 1967. On May 23, 1970, Fred was united in marriage to Charleen Buckmeier at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont. This union was blessed with two children, Jason and Jana. The couple resided and farmed in rural Fairmont and shared over 51 years together. Fred was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222, and the National Farmers Association. During his free time, Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as collecting coins and baseball cards. He was known to be spontaneous and even once showed up with a truck full of sand to create a beach for his grandchildren. He most loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Charleen Zoeller of Fairmont, Minn.; son, Jason (Heather) Zoeller of Wright, Minn.; daughter, Jana Zoeller of Trimont, Minn.; grandchildren, Lacie, Gage, Garrett, Michael, Serena, and Sabrina Zoeller; mother, Eunice Zoeller of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Mary (Donald) DeSart of Albert Lea, Minn.; brother-in-law, Cecil (Martha) Buckmeier of Ellendale, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Along with his father, Arthur Zoeller, Fred was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis Bulfer Sr.; sisters, Sharon Zoeller, and Linda Bohlsen; mother-in-law, Lillian Buckmeier; brothers-in-law, James (Edith) Buckmeier, and Floyd (Mary Lou) Buckmeier; and sisters-in-law, Lois (Gene) Bell, and Marguerite (Earl) Burmeister. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
