Grace passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Grace Esther (Kellander) Brockmann was born Feb. 21, 1922, along with her twin brother, Gordon Everett Kellander to Nathaniel and Edith (Nelson) Kellander on a farm in East Chain Township. Born into a family with a strong Christian heritage, Grace prayed the prayer of salvation and gave her heart to Jesus Christ at the age of 11. At age 19, Grace’s birthday was marked by two life-changing events: meeting Adolph Brockmann, the love of her life, and getting electricity at the family home. Three years later, Corporal Adolph Brockmann and Grace Kellander were married on Sept. 29, 1944. Following Adolph’s service in the army, he and Grace made the family farm their home, where Grace resided until age 99. To the community, Grace was known as a homemaker, church pianist, Sunday school teacher, pastor’s wife, and a good neighbor. To her family she was a mother, grandmother, song writer, and woman of prayer. Her love for God was expressed through the lyrics of hundreds of songs that she wrote as well as through her music ministry at the piano and organ. In September 1965, she and Adolph co-founded The Fairmont Bible Church, located at 515 E. 5th Street in Fairmont, which they pastored for four decades. Upon retiring from the church, they ministered in nursing homes for 10 years, assisted by their daughter Valerie Carrigan and husband Curt, holding a Sunday worship service in a different nursing home each week. When Adolph passed away in 2006, Grace became a licensed minister with Evangelistic Missionary Fellowship and carried on the nursing home ministry with Curt and Val Carrigan until 2016. On the morning of Jan. 18, just 34 days before her 100th birthday, Grace left this world peacefully and walked through the gates of heaven to meet Jesus, the Lord of her life whom she had loved and served for almost 90 years. Her faith and love for God is a legacy that her daughters, Sheryl and Val, and her granddaughters, Stephanie and Melissa, will cherish forever. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Adolph Brockmann; sister, Dorothy Kellander Sinclair; twin brother, Gordon Kellander; and parents, Nathaniel and Edith Kellander. She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Palmquist and Val Carrigan, and their spouses, David and Curtis; her granddaughters, Stephanie Palmquist and Melissa Palmquist; along with many nephews and nieces from the Brockmann, Kellander, and Sinclair families. Although her days on earth have come to a close, the impact of her life and ministry still impacts the lives of those she touched. She talked about Jesus throughout her life and lived the message of Isaiah 52:7 which says: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns.” A recent note received from a young lady who attended Sunday school at the Fairmont Bible Church years ago sums it up. She said, “The best thing my parents ever did was bring me to Sunday school at the Fairmont Bible Church because that’s where I met Jesus, and that changed my life forever.” Grace loved people and made them smile wherever she went. She also had a special place in her heart for her pet cats. Her greatest love was for God, and she spent her life telling others about Him. She will be missed by her family and those who knew and loved her. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
