Eva passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 18, 2022, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

Eva Mae Bickel was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Granada, Minn. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Grace (Bone) Ditsworth. Eva graduated from St. James High School and became a registered nurse after training at Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester during World War II. On Sept. 1, 1945, Eva was united in marriage to Irvin Bickel and lived in Reading, Pennsylvania until 1948 when they moved into what would be their home for 63 years in Fairmont, Minn. During this time Eva was an active member of the Fairmont Baptist Church. She worked as a private duty nurse and at Fairmont Community Hospital until her retirement. Eva also volunteered for the Red Cross, assisted with community blood banks, and helped vaccinate students in schools. After retirement Eva enjoyed rockhounding as a member of the Minnowa Rock & Gem Club where she became treasurer. She loved hiking and traveling in her own country and abroad with friends and family. Eva was a gentle light to those who knew her. Her good humor, respect for all, and calm demeanor made her a role model we can all emulate. Eva is survived by her children, Larry (Dawn) of Duluth, Minn., Jim (Terri) of Maple Plain, Minn., Ken of Duluth, Minn., and Cindy of Duluth, Minn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Berndt of St. James, Minn.; and other relatives. Along with her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; daughter-in-law, Debra Bickel; and brother, Walter Ditsworth.
