BUTTERFIELD — A celebration of life service for Elwood “Woody” L. Svalland, 77, of rural Butterfield, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, Minn. Military honors will be conducted by the Donald V. Larson V.F.W. Post 9607 of Butterfield at the church.
Svalland passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 4, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in St. James, Minn. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont is in charge of arrangements.
Elwood Lars Svalland was born April 9, 1944, in Windom, Minn., to Lars and Esther (Grams) Svalland. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, spending time in Vietnam, before being honorably discharged.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathy Svalland of rural Butterfield; son, Matthew Svalland of rural Odin, Minn.; daughter, Alison Poch of Rochester, Minn.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, JoAnn Junker of Butterfield; brother, Myron Svalland of Bigelow, Minn.; other relatives and friends.
