FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn “Kate” H. Winzenburg, age 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the church. Kate passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Goldfinch Estates Memory Care in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kathryn Helen Trier was born June 22, 1933, in New Holstein, Wis., to George and Frances (Haensgen) Trier. Growing up, she attended school in New Holstein and was a member of the 1951 graduating class from New Holstein High School where she won numerous state awards in vocal competition. Following her high school graduation, she worked in Washington D.C. for the FBI. She then moved back to Wisconsin where she attended Alverno College in Milwaukee, majoring in music. Kathryn also furthered her education by attending classes at Mankato State for Library Science, College of St. Catherine in St. Paul and the University of Minnesota. On Aug. 29, 1953, Kate was united in marriage to Frank E. Winzenburg at Holy Rosary Church in New Holstein. This union was blessed with five sons, Stephen, Douglas, Todd, Robert and John. Kate taught music at St. John Vianney Catholic School and East Chain Public Schools before she began her career as a librarian at the Martin County Library; she later worked as a school librarian at Deephaven and Excelsior. Kate was extremely active in the community. She was a charter member of the Civic Summer Theater, was on the board of Concert Association, was a member of Mrs. Jaycees, and a charter member of the Mozart Marching Society. Kate was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church where she was active in St. Michael’s Circle, was on the Pastoral Council and was a choir director. Kate and her husband loved to travel and visited 49 American states, many Canadian provinces, and several foreign countries. Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Frank Winzenburg of Fairmont; children, Stephen Winzenburg of St. Paul, Minn., Douglas Winzenburg of Farmington, Minn., Todd Winzenburg of St. Louis Park, Minn., Robert Winzenburg of Eagan, Minn., and John Winzenburg of Hong Kong; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Marlene) Trier of Whitewater, Wis.; former foreign exchange student, Paulo Bastos Netto of Rio de Janeiro; other extended family and friends. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, George and Frances Trier; parents-in-law, Frank D. and Rowene Winzenburg; daughter-in-law, Lucy Frisbie Winzenburg; brothers-in-law, Tom Winzenburg and James Winzenburg; and sister-in-law, Mary Kay Winzenburg. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
