Ruth Muir Hartman
WINNEBAGO — Ruth Muir Hartman, age 98, of Winnebago, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, after a long battle with longevity. A private interment will be held with close family. Spencer Owen Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Ruth was born April 20, 1923, in Winnebago, the 4th daughter of Harry and Florence (Austin) Muir. After graduating high school in Winnebago, she attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota. After college Ruth married Bruce Hartman and the two lived at their farm outside of Huntley. Ruth had a lifelong love of learning and was a voracious reader. She had a quick wit and an amazing imagination. She was the family historian, naturalist and caretaker of animals. If you ever had the good fortune of walking through the woods of Ruth’s beloved Lonesome Valley, either looking for trilliums in the spring or to view the fall leaves, know that you were very special and that you were her kind of person. Every one of those walks was a treasure. She is survived by niece, Mary (John) Field; nephew, Kim (Carol) Garletz; brothers-in-law, Buster (Shirley) Hartman and Eugene (La Jean) Hartman; nephews, Kenny Hartman, Ron Hartman and Wayne Hartman; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; parents, Harry and Florence Muir; three sisters, Marion Muir, Helen Waller and Florence Garletz; nieces, Leora Steinbach and Mary Jo Anderson; and great-nephew, Scott Seigfried. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Parker Oaks Senior Living for all their wonderful care and compassion. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family prefers donations to be made in Ruth’s memory to The Muir Library of Winnebago.
