Curt was called to his eternal rest Thursday morning, Oct. 21, 2021, at his home in Welcome, with the love of his life, Peggy, by his side after a well fought battle with lung cancer.
Curtis Wade Godden was born July 21, 1949, to Valdin and Eva (Nelson) Godden at the Naval Base Hospital in San Diego, Calif. In 1952, he moved with his parents and sister, Valerie, to Welcome, Minn. Curt was a 1967 graduate of Welcome High School. On July 12, 1968, Curt was united in marriage to the love of his life, Peggy Stelzer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Minn. Together, Curt and Peggy raised two daughters, Bridget and Cara. Curt’s parents, Val and Eva, opened Welcome TV in 1954. They provided the area with television sales and repair as well as UHF antenna installation. Curt saw the value in serving his community like his father did, and came on board Welcome TV in 1969 shortly after graduating from the Brown Institute in Minneapolis. Through his work with the TV store, Curt made and maintained many friendships and professional relationships. Curt officially retired in 2020 to focus on his health. Welcome TV officially closed its doors in 2021 after 67 years of sales and exceptional service. Curt was a loving, smart, funny, and friendly man. He never missed an opportunity to use his quick wit and family gatherings were always so much fun because of that. His humor wasn’t always appropriate for the setting but it always made his family and friends laugh. Curt had a twinkle in his eye that always let you know when he had something clever to say. Curt loved his family. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Curt showed his love for Peggy in everything that he did. He was a skilled electrician and woodworker, and passed many of those skills and tools on to family and friends. He was always willing to help and was just a phone call away. If you were lucky enough to call Curt family or a friend, you know that the world is a better place because he was here. Curt enjoyed Friday nights with Peggy, Valerie and Chuck at The Legion. Discussing their week over pizza and laughs. He enjoyed his trips to the casino with Peggy and looked forward to fishing trips with brother-in-law Chuck and cousin Micky to Florida. Curt loved music. If there was karaoke, you’d often see him sheepishly walk to the mic and then start to sing with the most beautiful voice. Truly a God given talent. Curt was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. He served on the Welcome Fire Department for 28 years and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion as well as the Welcome Lions. Curt is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Godden; his two daughters, Bridget (Doug) Blue and Cara (Cory) Sinn; two grandsons, Ean (Crystal) Sinn and Evan Sinn (special friend, Maddy Klima); sister, Valerie (Chuck) Omvig; the brothers he found later in life, Gary (Karla) Selseth and Doug (Gloria) Older; brother-in-law, Devonne “Swede” (Linda) Stelzer; sisters-in-law, Sandie (Dan) Tish and Lori (Nolan) Posivio; aunts-in-law, Sheila Stelzer and Eloise Finstad. Curt is also survived by a close knit group of cousins that have been a constant in his life on many adventures, as well as many nieces, nephews, other friends, and relatives. Curt is also survived by his “constant shadow” and beloved cat, Rudy. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Val and Eva (Nelson) Godden; grandparents, Albert and Harriet Godden and Mike and Lillian Nelson; father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Jane (Finstad) Stelzer; other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Curt’s name.
