Lawrence ‘Larry’ S. Siegler
FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence “Larry” S. Siegler, age 87, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Private family interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Lakeview Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Larry passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the SJV Endowment Fund, the Poor Clare Monastery in Sauk Rapids, MN, or to St. Jude’s.
Lawrence Sylvester Siegler was born July 15, 1934, in Richmond, Minn., the son of Michael and Dorothy (Schleppenbach) Siegler. Larry received his education at St. Mary’s grade school and later graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, Minn. He furthered his education at St. Cloud School of Business where he earned his associates degree. Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 18, 1952, serving during the Korean War. He attended basic training in San Diego and Hawaii before receiving advanced training in teletype and communications. Larry was stationed in several locations including China, Okinawa, Guam, and Hong Kong. His duties included teletype communications and post office manager until earning his honorable discharge on July 6, 1956. On Sept. 13, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Knuesel in St. Cloud, Minn. The couple resided in East Grand Forks and were blessed with seven children, Sandy, Tim, Patty, Terry, Barb, Mary, and Larry. Larry and Betty shared over sixty-three years together. Larry enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany. He could often be found in his garden and most loved fishing with his boys as well as any other time he was able to spend with his beloved family. Larry worked in credit collections throughout his life and more recently worked at Fleet and Farm in Fairmont in the Red Wing Shoe department until his retirement in 2016. He attended St. John Vianney Catholic church where he was active with the school and Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th degree Knight as well as a past Grand Knight. Larry’s giving and caring nature was also apparent in his call to serve his community. He was very active with the Fairmont City Council for 25 years, FI TV with fiber optics, Planning Commission, Economic Development Board, Safety Commission, Lakes Foundation, City Center Task Force, and Downtown Revitalization Task Force. Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Betty Siegler of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Sandy (David) Andersen of Carterville, Ill., Tim Siegler of Fairmont, Patty (Mike) Petrowiak of Fairmont, Terry (Kayla) Siegler of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Barb (Al) Stevensen of Owatonna, Minn., Mary (Paul) Betts of Fairmont, and Larry “Scoop” (Adonica) Siegler of Truman, Minn.; grandchildren, Lt. Tyler Andersen, Luke Andersen, Kristina (Ike) Severson, Sarah (Rick) Walters, Jena (Randy) Kauffmann, Wes Callahan, Chris Callahan, Adam Petrowiak, Jacob Petrowiak, Lindsay Rick, Logan (Sharon) Rick, Landon (Ellen) Rick, Terence Siegler Jr., Megan Stevensen, Ross Stevensen, Laura Stevensen, Andrea (Logan) Patrick, Kenzie (Ted) Haugo, Dan Betts, Maggi (Jordan) Breitbarth, and Halle Siegler; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita (Gary) Revening of Sartell, Minn., Betty Fischer of Champlin, Minn.; brother, Michael Siegler of Montana; sisters-in-law, Carol Klee of Arizona, Connie (Bob) Mayhew of Texas, Sue Wensel of Sartell, Minn., and Jean (Terry) Yager of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
