Robert (Bob) Leonard Honken

NORTH FORT MYERS, FLA. — Robert (Bob) Leonard Honken, 73, a seasonal resident of North Fort Myers, Fla., for many years, and formerly of Blue Earth, also from Montgomery, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021 in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born July 3, 1948 in Blue Earth, to Leonard and Shirley Honken, now deceased. Robert came from a humble background in Blue Earth, and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Culligan Salesman most of his professional career and worked part time during his retirement that included owning “Papa’s County Corner” in Blairsville, Ga. and at Hands of Friendship Thrift Store in New Prague. Robert had many friends across many states. He was known for being the life of the party and making people laugh. He had a nickname for almost everyone close to him. He loved to cook for his friends and family and typi-cally made enough to feed an Army. He was also a handy man and enjoyed doing small household projects. He will be missed by many and our hearts will be filled with wonderful memories of his wisdom and sense of humor.

He is survived by his former wife, Jan Oldenburg, of Lake Wales, Fla.; daughters, Lisa (Trent) Simek, of Raleigh, N.C., Shelly (Rusty) Jones, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Becky Lea, of Alexandria; three siblings, Jennie Lee“Tootie” (Edward) Flynn, of Elmore, Alan (Linda)Honken of Lone Rock, Iowa, and Vicky Knight of Fairmont; grandchildren, Jessica (Raul) Coronado, Katelyn (Brandon) Horejsi, Jestin Jones, Jace Jones, Rachel Lea, Cody Lea, and Kassidy Lea; great-grand-children, Siri Coronado and Stella Coronado; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the Faribault County Fairgrounds, in Blue Earth, from 12-1 p.m. for a lantern release and Military Honors, followed by lunch at the Blue Earth American Legion from 1-3p.m.
