Stephen “Popeye” J. Young Jr.
FAIRMONT– Services for Stephen “Popeye” J. Young Jr., 83, of Fairmont, MN, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Stephen passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at his home in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Stephen “Popeye” Johnston Young Jr. was born on May 26, 1938, in South Carolina, the son of Stephen Sr. and Mildred (Smith) Young. As a young boy, Stephen moved with his family to Pennsylvania where he received his education.
Stephen loved the open road and enjoyed working as an over the road truck driver. His abilities behind the wheel brought him to Fairmont, MN, where he helped Bettin Trucking during the construction of I-90.
While working in Fairmont, Stephen met Barbara Schultz and the couple was married on January 9, 1977, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Together the couple was blessed with three children, Jason, Jennifer, and Josh.
In his spare time, Stephen enjoyed fishing, camping, and working on cars.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Barbara Young; children, Josh Young, Jennifer Young, and Jason Young; eleven grandchildren; as well as many brothers, sisters, extended family, and friends.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Sr. and Mildred Young; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Martha Schultz; as well as many other family.
