Theodore W. Hammer
EATONTOWN, N.J. — Theodore W. Hammer, 86, of Eatontown, N.J., passed away unexpectedly May 15, 2021. Ted was buried alongside his wife, Sondra (Andersen) on Sept. 20, 2021, at Arlington National Cemetery.
Ted was born Nov. 14, 1934, in Fairmont, Minn. In high school Ted was active as a Golden Glove boxer, a gymnast, and a track star. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1952 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army that December. He returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Sondra. They returned to Ft. Bragg, N.C. Ted severed for 28 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After several tours in places such as the U.S., Europe, and Vietnam, he retired from Ft. Monmouth, N.J., but continued to serve his country in civil service for 31 years. Ted loved fishing and boating and was always in great shape. He loved to tinker with cars and always kept busy.
Ted is survived by his children, Theodore W. Hammer Jr. of Windsor Colo., and John D. Hammer of Eatontown, N.J.; brothers, Jerry Hammer of Durand, Wis., Al Hammer (Jackie) of West Point, Ga.; sister Stella Winzenburg of Belgrade, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Sharon Theobald and Shirley Heidecker of Fairmont; brothers-in-law, Warren, Duwayna, and Larry Andersen of Fairmont; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Ted is preceded in death by his wife, Sondra; daughter, Dyanna Kahl-Winter; brother, Harley Hammer Jr.; parents, Harley Sr. and Viola Hammer.
