Bernice L. Lehmann

CEYLON — A Celebration of Life Service for Bernice L. Lehmann, 91, of Ceylon, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minn. Burial will be in Lake Belt Cemetery in rural Ceylon.

Bernice was called to her eternal rest on Friday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2021, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and one hour prior to the services at the Church. Bernice Lydia Maschoff was born on March 3, 1930, to Arthur and Lydia (Weihe) Maschoff in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Minn. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school through the eighth grade at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilbert, Minn., she then attended Ceylon High School and was a 1947 graduate. She attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato for 2 years, after that she received her RN degree from Abbott Northwestern Nursing School in Mpls, Minn. On Jan. 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald E. Lehmann in Wilbert, Minn. After their marriage they lived in Charleston, S.C. while Don was in the Navy, they then returned to Ceylon and farmed in Lake Belt Township just west of Ceylon. There they raised their family and Bernice began her lifelong love of nursing at the Trimont Community Hospital, she later began working at the Fairmont Community Hospital as the head nurse in surgery for over 20 years. They later moved to Little Falls, Minn., and operated a dairy farm where Bernice was employed at the Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls, Minn. as an evening supervisor. In 1997 they retired and moved back to Ceylon.

Bernice was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon where she taught Sunday School and was very active in the church. She was a member of Nassen-Detert American Legion Auxiliary where she served as Treasurer. She greatly enjoyed baking, reading, gardening and watching the Twins. With friends she enjoyed, playing cards, her New Years Eve suppers and birthday party celebrations. But her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, leaving them with many fond memories of going to Trees Resort along with all the special occasions she spent and celebrated with them throughout her life.

She is survived by her four daughters, Jacqueline (Rob) Morris of Silver Lake, Minn., Kim (Roger) Manwarren of Ceylon, Minn., Jan (Bill) Bremer of Sherburn, Minn., Diana (Bill) Huntley of Dolliver, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Jessica Meade, Angela (Jason) Tilbury, Melanie(Adam) Anderson, Molly (Steve) Roben, Katie (Joe Burt) Manwarren, Naomi (Stefan) Slagowski, Tony (Michelle) Bremer, Megan (Bill Jensen) Huntley, Adam (Hunter) Huntley and Ben Huntley; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Melvin (Susan) Lehmann, Roger (Elizabeth) Lehmann; sisters-in-law, Iris Schlichting, Marie Humphrey and Winnifred (Paul) Olson; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Donald Lehmann; son Thomas Lehmann: parents, Arthur and Lydia Maschoff; parents-in-law George and Elsie Lehmann; brother, Roy (Margarete) Maschoff; sisters, Vera (Martin) Detert, Orleen (Robert) Flohr, Ardette (Jerry) Schley; brother and sister-in-laws, John Schlichting; Phyllis (Ewald) Detert; George (Helen) Lehmann; Jerry (Ruth) Lehmann; William Humphrey.
