Gracie passed away Sunday evening, July 25, 2021, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont, MN, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gracie Irene (Rector) Leiding was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Dean) Rector. Gracie received her education in the Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949. On Sept. 10, 1952, Gracie was united in marriage to Claire Leiding at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. The couple made their home on a farm near Ceylon, Minn., where they were blessed with two children, Brenda and Doug.

Gracie was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert. When she wasn’t working as a nurse’s aid at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center and the Lutz Wing in Fairmont, she enjoyed spending her time bowling with Claire. In 1964, Claire and Gracie purchased and operated Ceylon Bowling Lanes for many years. Gracie also enjoyed tending to the garden with Claire as well as playing cards, going for church coffee and Thursday morning coffee with her friends. The couple also enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Kentucky, and Missouri among other places. Gracie most treasured the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Brenda Wessel and her husband, Carl of St. Louis, Mo.; son, Doug Leiding and his wife, Michelle of Ceylon, Minn.; grandchildren, Matthew Wessel and his wife, Amanda of Memphis, Tenn., Amanda Williams and her husband, Chad of Harrison, Ark., Cole Leiding and his wife, Katie of Primghar, Iowa, Heather Wessel of Spain, Anthony Leiding and his wife, Katie of Wichita, Kan., Amy Pierce and her husband, Nathan of Grimes, Iowa, David Leach of St. Peter, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Breanne Wessel, Jocelyn Wessel, Natalie Wessel, Evan Williams. Landyn Leiding, Laythe Leiding, Lincoln Leiding, Jameison Leiding, and Bennett Pierce; sister, Retha Neubert of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law, Judy Benz of Concord, N.C., and Ellie Leiding of Mankato, Minn.; other relatives and friends.
