Hazel Grewe

JORDAN — Hazel Grewe, age 91, of Jordan, Minn., passed peacefully Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, Minn. A funeral service honoring Hazel will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, with a visitation from 10-10:50 a.m., all at St John’s Lutheran Church, 300 E. Fourth Street in Chaska, Minn. Pastor Greg Snow will preside. Pallbearers will be Erik Hanson, Chad Hanson, Shaun Hanson, Jerry Hanson, and Shane Lohman. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Cemetery, 1623 900 N. Fairlakes Ave., Fairmont, Minn.

Hazel Lillian (Schulz) Grewe was born Jan. 1, 1930, to John and Bertha (Weidler) Schulz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Hazel attended Central School in Fairmont through 3rd grade, St. Paul’s Lutheran School through 6th grade, and graduated from Fairmont High School in May of 1948. Hazel married the love of her life, William Grewe, on June 27, 1948. They had two daughters, Alyson and Kristine. Hazel and Bill owned and operated Grewe’s Jewelry in Fairmont, Minn. from 1948 to 1958 when they sold it and purchased the Dairy Queen in Fairmont, operating it until 1968. They then purchased Frederick’s Jewelry Store in Wells, Minn. which they operated as Grewe’s Jewelry and Gifts until Bill’s retirement in 1987. After retirement, Hazel continued to work in several retail establishments in Wells until moving to Albert Lea, Minn. in 1997. In 2001, Hazel and Bill moved to Belle Plaine, Minn. After the death of her husband, Hazel moved to Jordan, Minn. to be closer to her daughter. Hazel enjoyed chatting with friends, cooking, crocheting, writing poetry, and was especially known for the many dozens of cookies she would bake for Christmas family gatherings. Forever loved, Hazel is survived by her daughter, Kristine (Jerry) Hanson of Jordan; grandchildren, Shane Lohmann, Dana Lohmann, Heather Hennen, Tiffany Thomas, Erik Hanson, Chad (Sara) Hanson, Shaun (Mollie) Hanson; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter, Alyson; grandson, Brandon; parents; sister, Elaine; and brother, LaVerne.
