DuWayne H. Thate

FAIRMONT — A celebration of life visitation for DuWayne H. Thate, 82, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. A private family service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, with burial being held at a later date.

DuWayne passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

DuWayne H. Thate was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Ed and Emma (Meyer) Thate. He attended country school District 8 through the 8th grade and finished his education attending school at Granada High School where he graduated with the class of 1956. Following his graduation, DuWayne purchased a new truck and ran a milk route with the Fairmont Creamery for two years. He then began road working construction with Harold Conklin where he was a bulldozer operator. His passion for construction led to his employment with Clarence Zufall Construction where DuWayne helped in the construction of Rose Lake Golf Course. In 1970, DuWayne began farming and continued to do so until his retirement in 2005. Shortly after his retirement, DuWayne was diagnosed with cancer and after numerous operations and trips to Rochester, he celebrated being cancer free. DuWayne loved working odd jobs, trucking and working on farm machinery. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time outdoors. DuWayne cherished memories made to his farm up north near Detroit Lakes, Minn., and treasured spending time with family and friends. He was a past member of the Martin County Conservation Club, the Fairmont Eagles Club, and the Elks. He was a past member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Pleasant Prairie Township, where he served as a deacon and elder, and served on the Pleasant Prairie Township Board. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kris Thate and Julie (Manoj) Purohit; grandchildren, Trevor Sherrard, Cole Thate, Alex Proano, Mackenzie Thate, Nic Purohit, Tyson Thate, Hunter Thate, and Ryder Thate; sister-in-law, Betty Thate; nieces and nephews, Stacy Kundert, Doug Standle, Kevin Thate, Rick Thate, Todd Thate, Greg Thate, Sharon Thate, Karen Green, Steve Grathwohl, Pam Askvold, Bobby Maday, Jeanie Linburg, Ryan Robb, Stacey Robb, Tyler Robb, Nathan Nickelson, and Daniel Nickelson; as well as many other extended family and friends.
