James R. Allen

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for James R. Allen, age 80, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont, with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin

County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Those wishing to view a live stream of the service may do so at the following link, https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/8790888756. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Lakeview Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service on June 18.

James passed away Wednesday morning, May 26, 2021, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Memorials are preferred to the Martin County Veterans Memorial Park. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

James “Jim” Richard Allen was born Oct. 31, 1940, at his parent’s home in Park Rapids, Minn. He was the son of Fred and Berneice (McAllister) Allen. The family lived in Park Rapids until moving to Fairmont in 1943, where Jim attended Fairmont Public Schools. On

Jan. 26, 1960, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Alamo which during that time took part in operations off the coasts of Okinawa, Thailand and the Philippines. Jim earned his honorable discharge on Jan. 10, 1964. On May 20, 2006, Jim was united in marriage to LeAnn Krahmer in Welcome, Minn. The couple resided in Fairmont where they shared 12 years together before

LeAnn passed away on Oct. 12, 2018. After returning from the service, Jim went to work for Bosshart Construction in Truman, Minn., as well as being the caretaker for Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. He later worked for the Fairmont Public Utilities as a

powerplant operator until his retirement in 1999. Jim was a member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Jim was an avid Ford enthusiast who enjoyed watching NASCAR as well as dirt track

racing. He could often be found at the Fairmont racetrack on race nights with his sons and grandchildren. Jim was a fan of Fairmont Cardinal sports and most loved when he was able to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was also known to frequent the Dairy Freeze for an ice cream treat.

Left to cherish his memory include his sons, Steve (Kerry) Allen of Fairmont, Minn., and Brian (Nicole) Allen of Fairmont; grandchildren, Brady Allen and Madysen Allen of Fairmont; sisters, Barbara (Ron) Snobeck of Minneapolis, Minn., and Frieda Hoff of Fairmont; brother, Ron (Sharyn) Allen of Strawberry, Ariz.; close friend, Calvin Saxton of Granada, Minn.; close family friend, Kayleen Posivio (Layne) of Queen Creek, Ariz.; and

many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Fred and Berniece Allen, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, LeAnn Krahmer; sister, Betty Jo Allen; brother, Fred (Jody) Allen; brother-in-law, Hank Hoff; and niece, Tammy Page.
