Joan June (Jensen) Wede was born June 1, 1937, in Lakefield, Minn., to Einer and Gladys (Norgrant) Jensen. She attended and graduated from Windom High School in 1955, then completed an undergraduate degree at Mankato State Teachers College, graduating in 1959. After teaching 5th grade in Owatonna for a couple of years, she suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1961 in a car accident returning from a Victor Borge concert with some other teachers. Joan married Manley “Bill” Wede on May 21, 1963, in a ceremony at First Presbyterian in Windom. After living with her folks in Bingham Lake Township for a short while, they moved to Worthington where they lived for a decade adopting two sons, Greg late in 1967 and Cory early in 1971, as Joan took up the role as family homemaker. The family moved to Sherburn in 1975 where Joan lived until 2017. She attended the Assembly of God in Sherburn, and after moving to Worthington, attended Solid Rock Assembly. In addition to making a home for her family, Joan was very involved in volunteering and loved serving people in that capacity. Groups like the Boy Scouts when her boys were in school and later People First of Martin County (ARC of Minnesota). She was particularly proud of the District Award of Merit she received from the Boy Scouts in 1983. In her living and in her death, Joan placed her hope in Jesus and the great love God showed us through His work at the cross. Remaining are her sons, Cory Wede of Sherburn, Greg and Teresa (Kramer) Wede of Worthington; grandchildren, Caleb, Camila, Abigail, Nicole and Anaka Wede, all of Worthington; siblings and in-laws, Wayne Jensen of Windom, Donna Mason of Davis, Calif., Glalynn (Robert) Baird of Sacramento, Calif., and Carol (Lantz) Jensen of Windom; many nephews and nieces and their children; and daughterly friend, Linda Parker of Big Sur, Calif.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, “Bill”; both sets of parents; siblings and in-laws, Ina May and Chuck Taylor, Jerald Jensen, Virginia (Anderson) Jensen, Don Mason; and close friend, David Ebel.

To honor Joan, her family request memorials be given to the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance, https://www.braininjurymn.org/ and People First of Martin County (ARC Minnesota) at https://arcminnesota.org/.
