Bruce passed away Thursday morning, April 1, 2021, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bruce Allen Thompson was born May 13, 1953, in St. James, Minn., the son of Delbert and Annette (Thulien) Thompson. Bruce was baptized at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James and was later confirmed in Alexandria, Minn. He grew up in Winthrop, Minn., and later, moved to Staples, Brainerd, Alexandria, and Browerville, Minn., before moving to Fairmont. Bruce worked at Perkins in Fairmont for over 20 years and loved to visit with his coffee buddies there. He also worked at MRCI in Fairmont and was a member of SMILES, People First, and ARC. Bruce enjoyed traveling around the United States. He was able to go to Hawaii, Arizona, and especially loved the dude ranches in South Dakota. He received the Bill Sackter Award as well as many awards in the Special Olympics. Bruce was very social and when he wasn’t busy volunteering at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, he really enjoyed spending time with his many friends for Friday night bowling, golfing, putting puzzles together, and watching the Vikings. Bruce had also recently taken up knitting on a loom and had made gifts for many people. Left to cherish his memory include his brothers, David (Mary) Thompson of Andover, Minn., and Duane (Kathy) Thompson of Truman, Minn.; sister, Lorna (Doug) Bicknase of Fairmont, Minn.; brother-in-law, Rodney (Sandy) Dahms of Rapidan, Minn.; special friends, Dale Hanning, Ken Backman and Donald Pitcher; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
