Thomas passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 18, 2021, at his home in Sherburn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Thomas Lowell Horkey was born Jan. 26, 1956, in Bagley, Minn., the son of Howard and Mabel (Messenbrink) Horkey. Tom attended Windom public schools and graduated from Windom High School in 1974. On Dec. 6, 1975, Tom was united in marriage to Karen Hady. This union was blessed with four children, Jessica, Jeremy, Courtney, and Tyler. The family resided in Windom, Minn., before moving to Nebraska, Heron Lake, Minn., and then moved to Fairmont in 1985. Most recently, Tom and Karen moved to Sherburn, Minn. in 2015. It was their dream to own land and build their forever home. They shared over 45 years together. Tom worked as a production manager at Fairmont Foods. Tom was a member of the “Big Buck Hunt Club” and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. When he wasn’t tinkering and remodeling at the house, he liked watching westerns. He really enjoyed spending time in his shop, woodworking, and loved sharing that work with his family. Tom most loved family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren. The most important thing to Tom was taking care of his loving wife, Karen.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen Horkey of Sherburn, Minn.; children, Jessica Horkey (Jeremy “Bill” Stoeckmann) of Glencoe, Minn., Jeremy (Sadie) Horkey of Eagle Lake, Minn., Courtney (Landon) Bosma of Woodstock, Minn., and Tyler (Melissa) Horkey of Spencer, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, Felicia, Matthew, Danielle, Bryce, Brooklyn, Colton, Madison, Domanic, Cole, Aubrie, Brenna, Kenlie, Declan, Avery, Owen, Merrick, Jaxon, Breckin, Brooks, Brantley, and Briar; six brothers, David, Jerry, Mark, Howard, Daniel, and Steven; brothers-in-law, Brad, Dave, Bruce, Chris, and Thomas; sisters-in-law, Patti Larson, Jill Hady, and Carolyn Shumacher; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Howard and Mabel Horkey, Tom was preceded in death by his grandson, Logan Horkey; parents-in-law, James and Jeanette Hady; brother, Emil; and brothers-in-law, Richard and Timothy Hady, and Bruce Larson.
