Leland M. Pierson

TRIMONT — A private family service for Leland “Butch” M. Pierson, 77, of Trimont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, Minn., with Pastor Stephanie Christoffels officiating. Following the service, military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post 373 of Trimont, will be held outside of the church. Burial will be in the Butterfield City Cemetery, Butterfield, Minn.

Butch was called to his eternal rest Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, 2021, at Season’s Health Care in Trimont, Minn. Private family visitation will be 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, and a public visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont. Leland Martin Pierson was born May 14, 1943, in St. James, Minn., to Nels and Anne (Sanders) Pierson. On March 8, 1944, he was baptized and later was confirmed on June 15, 1958, both at First Lutheran Church in Butterfield. He attended school in Butterfield Public School and was a 1961 graduate of Butterfield-Odin High School. Leland then attended the University of Minnesota Ag Campus in St. Paul. On Dec. 23, 1964, he entered the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge on Jan. 16, 1966. He then attended Mankato Vocational School. On April 19, 1969, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Curry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. James, Minn. After their marriage, they lived in Waseca until in 1977 when they purchased Trimont Greenhouse and Floral. He did landscaping and worked in the garden center and greenhouse. In 2012 they sold the Trimont Greenhouse and Floral Shop. Leland was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. He was a youth group counselor, belonged to Mens Club at church, served on the church council, served Meals on Wheels in the community, served on the V.F.W. Post 9607 Butterfield lifetime member, former honor guard member of Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post 373 of Trimont, and a life-time member; former Trimont Area Service Klub T.A.S.K. member, Trimont Chamber of Commerce, Trimont City Council, Crest volunteer, Trimont Kiwanis, EMT and Trimont Fire Department former member. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in various activities and MN professional sports teams (especially the MN Twins). He was an avid WCCO listener and Sid Hartman fan. He also kept active by reading and doing crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Pierson of Trimont, Minn.; two daughters, Melinda Eddihi of Bloomington, Minn., Jennifer (Greg) Beseke of Sherburn, Minn.; four grandchildren, Aliah and Adam Eddihi, Nicholas and Sydney Beseke; sisters, Ruby Ekstrom of Butterfield, Vivian Blomgren of St. James, Eloise Zellmer of Waterville, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Pierson of Butterfield, Theresa Curry of St. James; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leland was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Anna (Monson) Pierson, Louis and Sophia (Grevenmeyer) Sanders; parents, Nels and Anne (Sanders) Pierson; father and mother-in-law, Sylvester and Gebka Curry; brother, Nels Pierson Jr.; sister, Beverly (Pierson) Ahern; brothers-in-law, Eldon Ekstrom, Leo Zellmer, Lawrence Ahern, Clarence Blomgren, Duane Curry, John Hewitt, Forrest Reichert; sister-in-law, Beverly (Curry) Hewitt, Ella (Curry) Reichert, and other relatives.
