Maynard was born June 8, 1934, in Tenhassen Township, Minn., to Herman and Martha (Peterson) Bettin. He went to Ceylon school where he met his wife to be, Margaret Blom. In 1950, Maynard bought his first dump truck and worked for Art Stade Construction, it only took a few years and his one truck operation turned to two trucks along with grain hoppers. He then started hauling for Rippe Grain and Milling, Truman Farmer’s Elevator and L-H Grain. Over the years Maynard’s trucking operation grew to nine trucks, nobody is sure if Maynard ever did fully retire. On Aug. 7, 1955 Maynard was united in marriage to Margaret and they were blessed with two children, Marlys and Michael. Maynard worked from “sun up to sun down, seven days a week, 20 hours a day,” building things. If anyone ever asked, he would tell them he was building landing gear for a 747. Maynard was easy to find, he was either having coffee with his buddies at McDonald’s (Perkins in years past) or at his corner club in the truck shop. Maynard is survived by his son, Michael (Joanne) Bettin of Fairmont, son-in-law, Dave Trygstad of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Nichole (Marc) Smyth of Texas, Jacob (Vanessa) Bettin of Truman, Minn., Maggie (Lukus) Malo of Fairmont, Matthew Trygstad of Rochester, Minn.; seven great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Lillian, and Vance Smyth of Texas, Noah and Lauren Bettin of Truman, Luther and Lucy Malo of Fairmont; and his sister, Betty Stevens of Fairmont. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Martha; wife, Margaret; daughter, Marlys; and brother, Walter.
