Robert Laird

TRUMAN — Robert Alexander Laird, age 75, of Truman, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at his home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, via Zoom. Contact St. Martin’s Episcopal Church for a Zoom invitation. He was born June 22, 1945, in Winnipeg Canada, son of Alexander and Katherine Laird. He graduated with a degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba. He moved to Fairmont and worked for Continental Grain, Woodward Broadcasting, Amdevco Packaging and Carlson Crafts of Mankato. He was a Mason, Shrine Motorcycle Patrol member and active in St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Rob was a people person who loved to go to dances at the VFW or the American Legion. He loved everything Scottish, including wearing a kilt and listening to bagpipe music. He particularly enjoyed riding in parades as part of the Shrine Motorcycle Patrol. He was a distance bicyclist and rode numerous Minnesota Ironman competitions. He loved working in his shop and made lots of sawdust. He was an avid reader and listener of public radio. One of the things he was proudest of was putting KFMC on the air when he was general manager of Woodward Broadcasting Corporation. He is survived by his son, Robert Charles Laird (Angela Merrill) and their children, Kaeden, Kalihondra and Olivia of Olympia Wash.; daughter, Katherine Laird of Menomonie Wis.; former wife, Libby Laird of Billings, Mont.; and brother, David Laird of Winnipeg.
