Richard ‘Dick’ Gibeau

CEYLON — Richard “Dick” Gibeau, 82, of Ceylon, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Mayo Clinic in Mankato. He requested that no service be held. A family celebration of his life will be held at a future date. He will be dearly missed by his children, Greg (Lori), Denise, Joe, Shane (Kandy), John (Dana), and Jennifer (Jimmy). He loved spending time with his children and their families at his impromptu backyard campground affectionately referred to as Dicks Camping Paradise. He always had fresh baked cookies for his “guests.” Spending time around the campfire, chatting, making hobos and s’mores made for many a memorable evening. Dick spent much of his spare time riding around Ceylon on his three wheel bike picking up trash and the occasional twigs for his campfire kindling. He was a fixture on his bike accumulating over 100 blocks on each ride, weather permitting. When he wasn’t riding he might be at his desk, working on his computer doing surveys or composing poetic jingles for his answering machine. Often he could be found just “putzing” around the house or yard. He loved staying busy. He loved his garden and the vegetables it produced. Richard was born in St. Paul, Minn. He attended high school at White Bear Lake HS. He worked many jobs over the years providing for his family including mail handler at USPS, alarm installer at Electro Watchman and as dispatcher at Estherville Sand and Gravel. At one point he was even a Fuller Brush Man. He retired after many years as owner/operator of several taxicabs. In addition to his children, Richard is survived by 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother, Gertrude; sister, Roberta Jean; brother, Roger; daughter, Kimberly; and son, James. The family requests any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
