Larry S. Ahrens

SOMERSET, Wis. — Larry Steven Ahrens, 73, passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, Minn., surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Ahrens; sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Marv Zilka; brother-in-law, Greg Nordstrom.

Larry was born June 13, 1947, in Fairmont, Minn., to Norman and Esther Ahrens. He graduated from Trimont High School in 1965, then Mankato State University in 1969. He married Lucinda Nordstrom on Sept. 14, 1968, and started a life partnership that was to last 52 years. Larry joined the U.S. Army in 1970 and attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Ga., earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was stationed at several bases, ending in South Korea for 13 months as a Signal Corp officer. Upon his discharge in 1973, he continued his service with the Minnesota National Guard, achieving the rank of captain. Larry worked for 3M for 35 years retiring in 2008. He was an avid reader, loved spending time in northern Minnesota hunting, fishing, and riding ATV trails. He was a member of the American Legion of Wisconsin. Larry is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Lisa (Becket) Dickerson; son, Christopher Ahrens; mother, Esther Ahrens; brother-in-law, Torre Nordstrom; sister-in-law, Linda Nordstrom; brother-in-law, Russ Peura. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in South Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services. www.bakken-young.com
