Duane Allen Roloff was born July 18, 1932, in Welcome, Minn., the son of Clarence and Alma (Borchardt) Roloff. He attended Welcome public schools and graduated from Welcome High School in 1950. Duane furthered his education at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., where he earned a degree in business administration. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two years before earning an honorable discharge. On Oct. 25, 1953, Duane was united in marriage to Shirley Speckman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. This union was blessed with three children, Denise, Robert, and Jill. The couple resided in California at Fort Ord while serving in the Army before moving to Welcome, Minn., while Duane completed college. They later moved to Iowa for a year where Duane worked as an insurance adjuster. The couple then moved to Fairmont in 1958, where Duane owned and operated Roloff Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1999. Duane and Shirley shared over 67 years together. Duane was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont where he served as past congregation president and treasurer. He was a member of the Jaycees when he was younger and more recently was a member of the Exchange Club and Martin County Republicans where he served as chairman for 25 years. During his free time, Duane enjoyed spending time in the outdoors including hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. He loved carpentry and was able to work as a carpenter while completing college as well as assisting each of his children with remodeling projects at their homes. Duane most loved the time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
