FAIRMONT — A memorial visitation for Rogelio Martinez, 69, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Rogelio passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family asks that people are mindful of social distancing guidelines, wearing masks and best practices in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The number of visitors will be monitored.

Rogelio Martinez was born Feb. 19, 1951, in San Juan, Texas, the son of Candelario and Aurora (Enriquez) Martinez. As a young boy, Rogelio moved with his family as work for them became available. He attended school in San Juan, Texas, and graduated from PSJA High School in San Juan.

On Dec. 23, 1972, Rogelio was united in marriage to Christina Bertelsen in Daily, Michigan. To this union, six children were born: Rogelio Jr., Catalina, Joseph, Judith, Matthew and Gabriel.

Rogelio was a hard worker, working construction and as a bricklayer laborer for many years. Rogelio also worked at Avanti Motors in South Bend, Ind., doing body work on cars and took great pride in being able to feel all the nicks and scratches on the cars with his soft fingertips.

In 2007, he moved to Fairmont to be closer to his family.

Rogelio was an avid pool player and jumped at the chance to chalk up the pool cue and take on any challenger. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his many jokes. Rogelio was passionate about sports and would watch any game that was on the TV. In his youth, you could find Rogelio at his favorite fishing hole, with a line in the water and an ice-cold Budweiser in his hand.

Family was extremely important to Rogelio and he cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Christina Martinez; children, Rogelio Martinez Jr., Catalina Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Judith (Joshua) Walders, Matthew (Austia) Martinez, and Gabriel Martinez; grandchildren, Gage Martinez, Jorden Rasche, Joshua James Walders, Lucy Martinez, and Josalyn Walders; brothers, Ruben Martinez and Geraldo Martinez; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alex Bertelsen and Sarah Hutchinson; nephew, Alberto Martinez; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Rogelio was preceded in death by his parents, Candelario and Aurora Martinez; brothers, Ramiro Martinez, Alberto Martinez, Fernando Martinez; in-laws, Donald Bertelsen, Teresa Miranda, Dino Bertelsen, Kathy (Robert) Parsons, and Charon Hence.
