ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Donna Mortensen, 98, formerly of Fairmont, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020, in the care of hospice in St. Petersburg, Fla. A service for her will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at United Methodist Church in Fairmont, with a graveside committal at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, where she will be buried next to her husband, Hans, and daughter, Linda Lee.

Donna was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Granada, Minn., to John and Amanda Clear.

Donna met Hans Mortensen and they married in 1940 in Estherville, Iowa. She and Hans lived in the Iowa/southern Minnesota area where they had three children: Roger, Rick and Linda Lee. In 1962, they moved to Seattle, where she worked at Wesley Foundation, the Methodist Student Center at the University of Washington. In 1977, they permanently moved to Florida, where Rick and his family were living.

While in Florida, she volunteered at multiple hospitals in the area, helping raise money to purchase six guide dogs for the blind from Southeastern Guide Dogs. She also was named the Frist Humanitarian Award winner at St. Petersburg General Hospital, where she provided handmade tray favors for patients who were hospitalized on the holidays.

She also volunteered at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, where she helped to prepare communion and volunteered as a greeter at the front desk.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; sisters, Jessie, Edith, Minnie; brothers, Wilbur, and Ernest; husband of 60 years, Hans; and daughter, Linda Lee.

Survivors include sons, Roger, and Rick (Susan); grandchildren, Scott (Judy), Drew, Mary, Heather (Nate), and Brian (Brenda); great-grandchildren, Chris, Madi, Cauge, Cali and Ali.
