Gary C. Raddatz

TRUMAN — Gary Carl Raddatz, age 80, of Truman passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. There will be a private family graveside service. Because of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, community members and friends are encouraged to visit the website www.zahariafamilyfuneral .com to leave the family condolences and to watch the livestream of the service.

Gary was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Truman, Minn. to Carl and Doris (Clow) Raddatz. He grew up and lived in the Truman area his entire life, with the exception of serving his country for three years, most of which was spent in Germany.

On July 23, 1966, he married the love of his life, Alice Widmann. Together they raised two children, Gina and Gerald.

Gary worked as a heavy machine operator for different construction companies in the area.

Gary was an active member of the Truman community, serving on the fire department for over 20 years, coaching Little League, Pony League and the American Legion baseball teams for several seasons. He was a member of the Gun Club, Legion Post 115 and VFW Post 1122. Gary took pride in the community of Truman, where he frequently volunteered for community projects and you would hear his familiar greeting “Oh?”

He was also an avid deer hunter and fisherman; although luck never seemed to be on his side while fishing, he enjoyed the time spent and memories made.

Gary was a huge Minnesota sports fan, subscribing to different papers to keep up with the scores and stats of all the teams. If he wasn’t watching a sporting event, you would find him watching westerns.

But nothing brought more joy to Gary than his family. He was supportive of all his grandchildren, attending their many school and athletic activities when he was able, and cheering them on as their #1 fan.

Left to cherish such wonderful memories are his wife, Alice, of Truman; daughter, Gina (Joe) Cerisier of Ramsey; son, Gerald (Janet) Raddatz of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Nick and Nathan Raddatz and Lindsey and Joe Cerisier; sister, Shirley (Herb) Sharp; sisters-in-law, Marcia Lloyd and BeeDee Starkweather; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Tammy Widmann, and Ron and Kathy Widmann; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale; niece, Robin House; nephew, Lance Raddatz; sister and brother-in-law, Orletha and Marvin Bosshart; sister-in-law, Kaye Widmann; brothers-in-law, James Lloyd and Duane Starkweather; and parents-in-law, Irvin and Bernice Widmann.
